When a woman named Alesha Brandt saw Meeps 11 years ago, she never thought the tiny pup would actually make it through the night. Thankfully, her daughter found the poor little creature just in time.
According to Alesha, her daughter saw Meeps while her owner was throwing her out of the car. Meeps only weighed around two pounds at that time with an eye that was damaged beyond repair. Alesha’s daughter bathed Meeps while waiting for her to come home and take the pup to the vet. Meeps behaved so well, silently letting her rescuer clean her in the tub.
Meeps is a Brussels griffon, who obviously had a pretty tough start at life. That did not stop Meeps from being the boss of Brandt’s home, though. Even with a missing eye, leg, and eardrum that cause her signature head tilt, Meeps still stands with so much pride.
Meeps also has a distinct bat-like appearance, thanks to her oversized hairless ears. According to Alesha, the pup’s ears have never grown hair. They are as soft as leather and look like bat wings. Because of that and her love for bananas and oranges, Meeps’ family and friends often call her a fruit bat.
Although she is a tiny dog, Meeps still runs the house. She will only tolerate Krum, her Brussels griffon brother, when she feels cold and needs someone to snuggle with. Meeps’ best friend is Leah, a large malinois. However, despite his much larger build, Leah is afraid of Meeps, and Alesha finds that pretty hilarious.
No matter how tough the opponent may seem, Meeps will never back down from a fight. One time, she spent 20 minutes barking at a fire hydrant. Meeps mistook it for an intruder, and her mom did not have the heart to tell her what it really was.
Meeps also has a soft side, especially when it comes to Alesha. She is her mom’s shadow and always wants to be in her arms or on her lap. Whenever Alesha travels, expect Meeps to go with her too.
Now, Meeps is around 14 years old, but she shows no signs of slowing down. The little bat dog eats well, likes taking naps, and enjoys the warm sunshine. She may look different, but she is just like any other dog.
