Fernando Monzón was busy kayaking when he heard an animal crying in a way that he has never heard before. He decided to paddle closer and was shocked to see a dog abandoned on the remote island.
The dog was looking for help, Fernando could see the dog looking at him. It was scorching hot, and he was not sure how long the poor pup has been enduring both the 37-degree heat and hunger.
Heartbreaking
It broke Fernando’s heart to see the dog in such a condition, so he decided to help the poor animal. The puppy ran away as soon as Fernando anchored his kayak, so he spent a few minutes searching for the pup’s whereabouts.
Fernando recalled that the dog was thrilled when he was found hiding behind the trees. He could tell that the pup was a family pet because of how friendly it was, but he could not understand why he was heartlessly abandoned on the island to die. He tried getting the dog to his kayak, but the pup was doubtful about getting in on it. Fernando said that the puppy wanted to follow him, but he could not because of how afraid it was of the water.
The Rescue Journey
Reassuringly, Fernando carried the dog to his kayak letting the pup know that everything would be okay. He shared that he managed to take a good look at the puppy while paddling a total of 4-kilometer distance. It was obvious that the dog was malnourished, a severe case of mange, and dehydrated. Fernando said that he left the pup to the animal rescuers who picked up the poor puppy.
He named the dog Jack and after five days Fernando visited him. Jack was doing surprisingly well! Fernando shared how rewarding it was to save Jack’s life and have a new friend in him.
