DOG SURVIVES HURRICANE
Locals say that this dog was displaying “Texan” pride, in other words, knowing how to survive. Otis the dog, was seen carrying a full bag of dog food in his jaws. After Hurricane Harvey hit Texas everyone was dealing with the destruction caused by the storm.
Resident Tiele Dockens witnessed Otis on the street holding on to a big bag of dog food. Everyone was looking for friends and family in the north Corpus Christi area. Otis was securing his next meal.
A DOG NAMED OTIS
People were starting the clean-up after Harvey hit which, as a result, tore up their neighborhoods and town of Sinton, Texas. The HuffPost reporter was in town on Saturday and spoke with Dockens. Tiele Dockens told this amazing yet funny story to the HuffPost about Otis the dog.
OUTPOUR OF TEXAS PRIDE
Tiele shared a photo with the hashtag#refugee of a golden retriever mix in full survival mindset. In addition, Dockens learned the dog’s name was Otis. Her photo of Otis went viral and initiated an outpouring of Texas pride.

Subsequently, Dockens met the dog’s owner as a result of taking the photo. After that, she was greatly relieved to learn Otis got home safely. No one knows where Otis got the bag of dog food.
The loss of power and water was now the major concern for all impacted by the hurricane. Otis’ owner had higher priorities on his mind and did not comment to reporters. Heavy rains continued for several days after Harvey made landfall.
SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE
Hurricane Harvey at one point it was classified a category 4. Above all, it dropped 15 inches of rain with wind speeds of 130 miles per hour. It caused significant damages over several parts of Texas.
Human and animal loss of life is unavoidable in a hurricane situation. Gulf Coast residents are all too familiar with this fact. First responders and utility work crews jump into action.
LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE
In conclusion, this amazing dog named Otis, provoked an outpouring of Texas pride. He also gave residents a belly laugh therefore cheering folks up. Laughter is good medicine and Otis sure spread the good medicine around to others.
