Iris was a Pitbull that was found by animal control living on the streets. She was taken to the local animal shelter, where a vet examined her.
Iris’ story
Aside from being malnourished and scared of human interaction, Iris was in good shape to be fostered. Luckily, Lauryn, a volunteer at the shelter that loved to foster dogs, offered to take care of Iris.
Lauryn had a lot of experience with dogs that have experienced trauma, so she knew that she had to be patient and gentle. Lauryn took Iris to her basement, which led to the backyard separate from her other dog, Max.
It was evident that Iris was terrified of being in a new environment. She would usually walk out to the backyard and hide behind a huge pot. Whenever Lauryn would call her, she would flinch.
Lauryn had to carry Iris inside whenever it got cold outside. Iris would stay in the spot that Lauryn would put her for hours, so Lauryn set up blankets on the floor to make it more comfortable. Lauryn spent most nights trying to form a bond with Iris. It took a few weeks, but in the end, the dog began to trust her foster mom.
Lauryn finally decided that Iris was ready to meet Max. When Lauryn introduced the two dogs to each other, they just sat on the ground and didn’t do anything.
Fortunately, after a few days, Max helped Iris blossom into a playful and affectionate dog. Iris started to love playing and going on walks. Lauryn noticed how much progress Iris has made, so she decided that the dog was ready to be adopted.
Journey to forever home
Matt and Jacki were a lovely couple and close friends of Lauryn. They saw Lauryn’s post online about Iris and were interested in adopting the dog. Lauryn knew that the couple had a dog named Clio, who was also a Pitbull, so she thought that they would be the perfect people to adopt Iris.
Lauryn dropped Iris off at Matt and Jacki’s house the next day. Iris immediately ran to his new family and gave them kisses. It didn’t take long before Iris felt comfortable in her forever home.
