TOP SEVEN FINALISTS
Competing against almost 408 nominees, she landed as one of the top seven running finalists. Mackenzie is named 2020’s American Hero Dog. With more than a million votes cast, this chihuahua proved that even the littlest creature in the world can make a difference.
A CHIHUAHUA NAMED MACKENZIE
MacKenzie is a seven-year-old chihuahua who only weighs just four pounds. She was born in 2013 at a rescue shelter in Hilton, New York. Unfortunately, Mackenzie had to be tube-fed during the first year of her life due to her cleft pallet. But her disability did not hinder her will to live.
BORN WITH A BIRTH DEFECT
In 2014, MacKenzie had undergone a cleft palette surgery which eventually helped her to gain the skill to eat and drink on her own. After her surgery, the tiny chihuahua devoted her time to the Mia Foundation. The Mia Foundation is a New York-based non-profit organization that shelters and supports animals with birth defects.
MACKENZIE’S SERVICE
Here, she spends most of her time taking care of other dogs. Tending to puppies, kittens, turkey, and even goats, she treats all animal babies as her own. She acts as their tiny mama; cleaning, feeding, and teaching them how to behave well.
TINY MAMA TO ALL
Existing for more than a hundred years, American Humane is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to ensure the welfare as well as the safety of our canine friends. Quoted as the Oscars of the Dogs, the annual search of the American Hero dog awards aims to recognize canines with remarkable contributions to society.
DOG OSCAR AWARD
MacKenzie, despite her disability, has proven that she is worthy to be crowned as the year’s Hero Dog. She showed that no birth defect can stop an animal to still see the world to be worthy of so much love and kindness. Her heart-melting story won the hearts not just of the judges but also the adoration of the people.
DOG ANGELS
Now serving as an inspiration to all, MacKenzie’s life proved that even without wings, angels do exist and they disguise themselves in a form of a dog.
